Class and Curriculum Policy
BOXER CRAFT HOUSE
Class & Curriculum Policy
INTRODUCTION
Thank you for your interest in Boxer Craft House classes. We are committed to providing high-quality craft instruction in a supportive and creative environment. To maintain the integrity of our offerings and ensure the sustainability of our business, we have established the following policies regarding our classes and curriculum.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
- Punctuality: Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your class time. This allows you to get settled and pick out materials. Arriving late may result in missing out on important instructions and potentially forfeiting your class slot.Â
- Refunds: All classes are NON-Refundable unless the class is canceled by Boxer Craft House. Refunds will not be issued for no show.
- Registrations: Classes must be paid in full to secure your spot. Classes can be purchased online or in store. Â
- Patterns/Files: No file or pattern sharing is allowed! If a class requires a specific file or pattern, each class participant must have their own legal copy.
- Materials: Any materials not provided in your class must be purchased prior to class.
Inclement Weather/Rescheduling:
- Notification of Cancelation: Boxer Craft House will notify class participants by phone or email in the event we need to cancel class and make up date will be scheduled.
- Rescheduling: In the event we have to reschedule a class we will email with the new date. If you are unable to attend the class please email or call the store within 48 hours after the email has been sent with the new date so we can make arrangements. NO refunds will be given for no call or no show.Â
CLASS CONTENT & COMMUNITY ETHICS
- Our Teaching Materials: While the patterns used in our classes may be commercially available, our specific teaching methods, handouts, supplemental materials, and class structure are developed by Boxer Craft House and are for use in our classes only.
- Authorized Instruction: Boxer Craft House classes are taught at our facility by our employees and authorized instructors who have been specifically hired and trained to deliver our curriculum with our unique approach.
- Community Consideration: We respectfully ask that participants refrain from teaching the same projects or techniques learned in our classes to others in our local community, especially to other Boxer Craft House customers. This practice impacts our ability to sustainably offer quality instruction and undermines our business.
PARTICIPANT EXPECTATIONS
- Personal Enrichment: Classes are offered for personal enrichment, skill development, and enjoyment. While we understand you may use these skills personally, we ask you to consider the impact of teaching these same techniques to others who might otherwise attend our classes.
- Ethical Consideration: We ask participants to respect the significant investment Boxer Craft House makes in developing quality instruction. Teaching the same class project to other local crafters—particularly those who are already our customers or in our service area—is strongly discouraged as it directly impacts our small business.
-
Local Community Impact: Before organizing instruction based on our classes, please consider:
- Is this teaching taking place in the same geographic area as Boxer Craft House?
- Would the participants likely attend our classes if you weren't teaching them?
- Are you using our unique teaching approaches, handouts, or specialized techniques?
- Photography & Recording: Photography and video recording during classes are permitted for personal use only. When sharing on social media, please credit Boxer Craft House and avoid publishing detailed instruction that would replace attending our classes.
INSTRUCTOR AGREEMENTS
- Curriculum Development: When instructors contribute to curriculum development, such contributions become the property of Boxer Craft House as works made for hire.
COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE PATTERNS
We recognize that many patterns used in our classes are commercially available and purchasable elsewhere. While we cannot restrict the use of these patterns for personal projects:
- Our Added Value: Boxer Craft House classes provide unique instruction, specialized techniques, and valuable community experiences beyond what's included in pattern instructions.
- Pattern Rights vs. Teaching Rights: Purchasing a pattern gives you the right to make projects from it, but doesn't necessarily include the right to teach others using our instructional methods.
PERMISSIONS & COMMUNICATION
- Open Conversation: If you wish to share techniques learned in our classes with others, especially in our local area, we appreciate a conversation beforehand. Often we can find mutually beneficial solutions.
- Teaching Opportunities: Qualified students interested in teaching may want to explore becoming authorized instructors at Boxer Craft House rather than teaching independently.
- Group Arrangements: For quilting groups or craft circles interested in our projects, we offer private group classes and special rates rather than having individual members replicate our instruction.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT
By registering for and participating in Boxer Craft House classes, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to respect these community guidelines.
We appreciate your support in maintaining the viability of our classes and the sustainability of Boxer Craft House as a small business in your community. These guidelines exist to foster a respectful crafting ecosystem where both instructors and small businesses can thrive together.
